A Caring Companion Chatbot Catered for College

Abstract
Emora is an intelligent social chatbot tailored for Emory undergraduate students. It was created using the Emora State Transition Dialogue Manager. In its initial release, Emora could talk about various aspects of college life such as living in dorms, extracurricular activities, strategies for studying, and dealing with stress. Emora’s limitations are largely due to the small size of the development team and hand-crafted state-machine approach to Emora’s dialogue. By using conversation logs from beta testing and gathering data on the student population, Emora is gradually improving into an intelligent companion that will ultimately serve as a lifelong friend for Emory students.
