Abstract
The Emora College Companion is a conversational socialbot designed by Emory University's Natural Language Processing Lab to assist undergraduate students in achieving their academic goals. While other chatbots in higher education provide basic information and reminders, the Emora College Companion engages in human-like interactions to personalize the student experience. With a misunderstanding rate of 5.05% and a poor response rate of 4.46%, version 8 of the College Companion is capable of over 40 personalized conversations across 13 topics, and has a total conversation time of approximately 56 minutes. This technology is the first socialbot catering to college undergraduate students and provides a unique approach to tackling day-to-day tasks and challenges.
