Jinho Choi

Associate Professor of Computer Science, Data & Decision Sciences, and Linguistics

Director / Founder

Dr. Jinho Choi is an Associate Professor at Emory University, where he also serves as Director of Graduate Studies for the Computer Science and Informatics PhD Program. He founded the Emory Natural Language Processing (NLP) Lab in 2014 and has led it ever since. Dr. Choi’s research has transitioned from core NLP to Conversational AI, spanning both foundational advances and applied systems for real-world challenges in education, healthcare, and other high-stakes domains. Notable projects include Emora Chat, which won first place and $500,000 at the Alexa Prize Socialbot Grand Challenge in 2020, and Tinker Tales, which earned the Innovation of the Year Award in 2026. Beyond research, Dr. Choi is an active voice in the broader community: he has been featured in media outlets including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) and TEDx, and has served as General Chair of SouthNLP 2024 and SIGDIAL 2026.
